On Saturday, June 7, the Native American Bear Foundation (NABF) was proud to attend and support the Lindy Waters III Foundation Culture Connections Camp in Oakland, CA. This one-day gathering empowered Native youth through culture, connection, and creativity.
Hosted in partnership with Intertribal Friendship House, this powerful event brought together young Indigenous leaders and changemakers for a day filled with hands-on workshops, community building, and cultural revitalization. From the moment doors opened, the energy was contagious. Youth from across the Bay Area stepped into a space created for them, by them, and with their growth in mind.
The day featured incredible instructors rooted in their communities and crafts:
Mindfulness with Anthony Guzman
Storytelling with Fritz Bitsoie
Basketball with Analyss Benally
Basket Weaving with Isaiah Faasisila
Technology & Robotics with Alice Sanchez (in partnership with Cisco)
College Prep & Leadership with Nizhóní Begay
Each session encouraged youth to not only engage in cultural practices but to see themselves as the next generation of Indigenous leaders—resilient, creative, and full of purpose.
As a Foundation committed to uplifting Native communities, the Native American Bear Foundation was honored to be part of this day. Our team helped welcome families, cheered on participants during workshops, and connected with other changemakers committed to the future of Native youth.
We left inspired by the passion, talent, and brilliance of the youth in attendance and deeply grateful to the Lindy Waters III Foundation for creating this safe and celebratory space.
We look forward to continuing to support initiatives like these that elevate Indigenous voices and strengthen our communities.
